He leaned back in the dentist’s chair, the hygienist working around his mouth. The fluorescent lights overhead seemed to soften as he stared at the ceiling. Outside, the rain drummed a steady rhythm against the window. He was waiting for Chloe, who was always late. Her bag was next to him, and he absentmindedly reached for it. A small, leather-bound journal was nestled inside.

"Dreams," was the header. "Travel the world. Learn to play guitar. Write a screenplay." He thought about her, guitar in hand, a screenplay on her desk. A smile crept across his face. He felt… content.
